Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51. Will Elohim Use Russia to Judge America?
From the Book Reckoning of Time
The prophets Jeremiah, Isaiah, and John speak of another Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51, Isaiah 13 & 21, and Revelation 18, respectively, and as already stated this “Babylon” is a country. Bear in mind that “Babylon” in Revelation 17 represents the corrupt financial and monetary system of the post-war world, while “Babylon” in Revelation 18 is a pre-war country, as it is also in the prophecy of Jeremiah.
Bear in mind also that this “Babylon” may be a code name for a country and since the prophecy in Jeremiah 50 and 51 clearly pertains to the last day prophecy, “Babylon” may be a modern-day country very well known today. Of course, the description of the ancient Babylon agrees pretty much with that of “Babylon” in the end-time prophecy: it cannot be called “Babylon” without respect to likeness. However, as the present author believes, allusion is made that this “Babylon” is the fulfillment of the second layer of the prophecy pertaining to a modern-day country.
Last but not least, bear in mind that the present author does not hold anything against that country, let alone against its people, but against the foreign policy of its political and military elite.
Below are the strong clues given by Elohim concerning the Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51. Note, that YHVH has used words and terms in His prophecy which the ancient could have understood. We however need to decipher this prophecy to our culture and language. Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is best described by the following hints given in the prophecy, and they are:
-
There is a large Jewish population in Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 which is going to flee from it when the time comes.
In those days and at that time, declares Yehovah, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Yehuda together, weeping as they come, and seek Yehovah their Elohim. They shall ask the way to Tsiyon, their faces toward it, ‘Come and let us join ourselves to Yehovah, in an everlasting covenant, never to be forgotten.’ … Flee from the midst of Bavel come out of the land of the Chaldeans. And be as rams before a flock. (Jer 50:4-8) Also, Jer 3:11-18, Rev 18:3-5.
There were approximately 250,000 Jews in the United States alone by 1880, in contrast today and depending on religious definitions and varying population data, the United States is home to the largest or second largest (after Israel) Jewish community in the world. In 2012, the American Jewish population was estimated at between 5.5-8 million. This constitutes between 1.7 to 2.6 percent of the total U.S. population. The simile as rams before a flock does not mean that Israel is to press forward that they may save themselves before anyone else, but that Israel is to go before all, as an example and leader in the flight from America.
-
Babylon’s enemies are from the North.
For look, I am stirring up and bringing up against Bavel an assembly of great nations from a land of the north, and they shall array themselves against her. From there she shall be captured – their arrows are like those of a mighty skilled man, not returning empty-handed. (Jer 50:9) Also, Jer 50:3, Jer 50:41, Jer 51:48,
In Chapter Two Scenarios of the War of Gog in Part II of this study, we learned that the Arctic Ocean has become a part of dispute between the Arctic nations, the U.S. and Russia. By overtaking the North Pole, Russia claimed it to be its own territory thus having become a land of the north related to U.S. Having said that, we concluded, that Russia is from the hidden North, as related to the U.S., from the other side of the globe through the North Pole invisible to North America. With this understanding, we may interpret Jer 50:3 thus:
For a nation shall come up against her from hidden (place), which shall make her land waste, and none shall dwell in it.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is prospering, self-confident, and complacent country.
Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, you who plunder My inheritance, because you have grown fat like a heifer threshing grain, and you neigh like stallions, (Jer 50:11)
The American exceptionalism is meant here. It is a widely accepted public opinion and well coined foreign policy of the U.S. that the country is exceptional.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 consists of many other ethnic groups which will flee the country, as well.
Cut off the sower from Bavel and him who handles the sickle at harvest time. From before the sword of the oppressor each one turns to his own people, and each one flees to his own land. (Jer 50:16) Also, Isa 13:13-16, Jer 50:37, Jer 51:9.
It is supposed that there are about a hundred-fifty or more ethnic groups in the United States. However, it is extremely hard to define such number in a melting pot nation like the United States due to multi-ethnic population and annually increasing number of immigrants. The Hebrew word for Babylon is Bavel which means “mixed up” (from a root meaning “to mix up”).
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is a military power and world “policeman.”
How the hammer of all the earth has been cut off and broken! How Bavel has become a ruin among the nations! (Jer 50:23)
Major elements of the conquest and world domination strategy by the U.S. foreign policy refer to: 1) the control of the world economy and its financial markets, 2) the taking over of all natural resources (primary resources and nonrenewable sources of energy). The latter constitute the cornerstone of the U.S. power through the activities of its multinational corporations which is the U.S. Geopolitical Outreach. To achieve this the U.S. needs a network of military bases around the globe.
The U.S. has established its control over 191 governments by an integrated network of military bases and installations which covers the entire planet (continents, oceans and outer space) and continues to do so by building military bases in the countries from the former Warsaw Pact. The main sources of information on these military installations (e.g., C. Johnson, the NATO Watch Committee, the International Network for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases) reveal that the U.S. operates and/or controls between 700 and 800 military bases worldwide. There are 6,000 military bases and/or military warehouses located in the U.S. alone. The total military personnel are of the order of 1,4 million of which 1,168,195 are in the U.S. and U.S. overseas territories. As of the time of writing, the U.S. already established new military bases in the former Warsaw Pact countries from the Eastern Europe.
Since the end of WWII, the U.S. has waged ten major wars and military conflicts in one form or the other which is more than any other country in the world has done. And it lost them all. This is the only country in the world that has used nuclear weapons for real. The U.S. military budget is larger than that of the E.U., Russia, and China combined. This military and political expansion of America’s power is based on and justified by the concept in the U.S. foreign policy that America has a unique and exceptional global role as the only superpower that can provide a world order and peace.
This country always tends to use force to solve the world’s problems. The U.S. carry a hammer and believe that all problems are nails.

The geography location of Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 allows for an easy circumvent around it.
Set yourselves in array against Bavel all around, all you who bend the bow. Shoot at her, spare no arrows, for she has sinned against Yehovah. Shout against her all around. She has given her hand, her foundations have fallen, her walls are thrown down, for it is the vengeance of Yehovah. Take vengeance on her. As she has done, so do to her. (Jer 50:14-15) Also, Jer 50:29.
The geographical location between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and the Gulf of Mexico allows any of the superpowers to come close and even undetected to the U.S. shores. Russia has developed a weaponry system that includes nuclear submarines carrying long-range submerged drones, which could create “extensive zones of radioactive contamination” that would make enemy coastal areas “unsuitable for military, economic, business or other activity for a long time.” The concept of a nuclear torpedo can be traced back to the 1950s. This concept proposed targeting the U.S. with high-yield nuclear torpedoes that would create huge tsunami waves and high levels of radioactivity to render large coastline areas uninhabitable.
The proposal was rejected back then, partly because the naval technology of that era would not allow a Soviet submarine to approach the U.S. shore undetected. But today it is different. The “Oceanic Multipurpose System – Status 6”, as the new weapon is called, appears to be a new reincarnation of the old idea. The drone-submarine powered by its own nuclear reactor is expected to have a trans-Ocean range of 10,000 kilometers (5,400 miles) and this is a game changer.
But while the drone’s real range could be much shorter, its relatively small size, a purported operational depth of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and a speed of 105 kilometers (65 miles per hour) make it difficult to spot and destroy. In order to achieve the stated purpose of “extensive radioactive contamination” of coastal areas, the project could envisage using the so-called cobalt bomb, a nuclear weapon designed to produce enhanced amounts of radioactive fallout compared to a regular atomic warhead.
This drone-submarine with a cobalt warhead may produce a tsunami that can rise over Babylon’s shores destroying the coastal cities in order to fulfill Jer 51:42:
The sea has risen over Bavel, she has been covered with the roaring of its waves. Jer 51:42
Having said that, the prophecy concerning Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 appears even more realistic than ever.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah in 50 and 51 is a proud country.
See, I am against you, O proud one! declares the Master Yehovah of hosts, for your day has come, the time for your punishment. And the proud one shall stumble, and he shall fall, with no one to raise him up. And I shall kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him. (Jer 50:31-32) Also, Rev 18:7, Isa 47:7-11.
Babylon blames everyone else; nothing is ever her fault. She will never admit she is wrong as long as the enemies are to be blamed. She does not care what the truth is. Babylon is prideful because she considers her self exceptional and second to none.

Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is a land of many waters, carved images, obelisks, and monuments which it boasts about.
A sword is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up. For it is a land of carved images, and they boast about their idols. (Jer 50:38) Also, Jer 51:13, Jer 51:42.
Another geographical clue has been given here. As already stated, U.S. is surrounded by the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Lakes to the north. Not to mention Mississippi River, Colorado River, which run through the heart of the country. The drying up of her waters is a mere consequence of continued drought, for the purpose of destroying that land.
As already stated, there are about a hundred-fifty or more ethnic groups in the United States. Each of these ethnic groups and nationalities has brought in the country its own specific culture, traditions, and religious rites, how they worship their deities, etc. As a result of this multiculturalism, U.S. has become proud of its liberal orientation and also of its pagan idols such as the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, the George Washington Masonic Memorial, the skyscrapers the hallmark of the American landscape, and many other symbols of Freemasonry and the Illuminati throughout the country.
Needless to say, the all-seeing eye above an Egyptian pyramid on the dollar bill and “Novus Ordo Seclorum” or New World Order under it. Yet, this country boasts around that it is a Christian nation. Babylon is to be destroyed, with its inhabitants and all its means of help, because it is a land of idols (Jer 51:52 and Isa 21:9), and its inhabitants suffer themselves to be fooled by false gods. Therefore, Babylon will become an eternal waste, where none but beasts of the desert find shelter, where no human being dwells (Jer 50:39, Isa 13:20-22 and Isa 34:14).
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is likened to Sodom and Gomorrah.
As Elohim overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities, declares Yehovah, so no one would dwell there, nor would son of man sojourn in it. (Jer 50:40)
The violence and moral decline of America surpass even that of Sodom and Gomorrah. The famous American evangelist Billy Graham allegedly said, “If God does not punish America, He has to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” Well, Elohim does not owe apology to anyone.
Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, the former Chief Rabbi of Great Britain, made a comment on the new moral reality in the West in an article in the Wall Street Journal in 2011, warning,
“A tsunami of wishful thinking has washed across the West saying that you can have sex without the responsibility of marriage, children without the responsibility of parenthood, social order without the responsibility of citizenship, liberty without the responsibility of morality and self-esteem without the responsibility of work and earned achievement.”
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is a world trade and financial center, has world currency and economy, a large merchant fleet, and all countries are dependent on her; it is called “the great country”
Bavel was a golden cup in the hand of Yehovah, making drunk all the earth. The nations drank her wine, that is why the nations went mad! (Jer 51:7) Also, Jer 50:46, Isa 14:4, Rev 18:2-3, Rev 18:9-19, Rev 18:23.
The Federal Reserve, Wall Street, and New York Stock Exchange (to mention a few) are quite emblematic to characterized U.S. as the golden cup. The conquest of Babylon, the mistress of the world, will put the whole world in anxiety and fear.
-
Its enemy from the North (Russia) has Medes (Iran) for an ally.
Polish the arrows! Put on the shields! Yehovah has stirred up the spirit of the sovereigns of the Medes. For His plan is against Bavel to destroy it, because it is the vengeance of Yehovah, the vengeance for His Temple. (Jer 51:11) Also, Isa 13:17-18, Jer 51:28.
Why is Russia allied with Iran? A chief reason is Chechnya, the breakaway republic that has fought wars against Russia in the last two decades since the fall of the Soviet Union. As the Russian President Putin put it,
“If extremist forces manage to get a hold in the Caucasus this infection may spread up the Volga River, spread to other republics, and we either face the full Islamization of Russia, or we will have to agree to Russia’s division into several independent states.”
In this potentially existential war against the Chechens, who are Sunnis, Shiite Iran is solidly in Russia’s corner, by declaring Russia’s war on Chechens to be an internal Russian affair. In return of the favor, and to limit the American influence in the Middle East and elsewhere, Russia supports Iran – Iran’s nuclear plant comes courtesy of Russia – and Iran’s allies, the Syrian president Assad.
Russia and Iran, numbers one and two in world reserves of natural gas, have another common interest: the domination of gas deliveries to both Europe and Asia. To accomplish this, they need to prevent the U.S. and Turkey, their historic regional foes, from building competing pipelines. Because Russia and Iran depend entirely on their energy exports for their status as major political players, control over the pipelines becomes vital to guaranteeing markets for their energy. This “marriage” of Russia and Iran is more based on common interests against a common foe, understand U.S., rather than on “love.” Russia does not desire to ally with Iran, but it has to.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is driven by materialism and profit gain, and it is rich.
You who dwell upon many waters, great in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your greedy gain. (Jer 51:13)
The many waters on which Babylon dwells and surrounded by afford her a strong protection against hostile attacks, but at the same time contributed to increase the wealth of the country and the capital. The great riches, however, by which Babylon became “great in treasures” were derived from the enormous spoils which America gained from the aftermath of the WWII. This is the only country which gained treasures from the post-war world and emerged as a leading power.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 has many governors and rulers, a federal country.
And with you I shall break in pieces the shepherd and his flock, and with you I shall break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen. And with you I shall break in pieces governors and rulers. (Jer 51:23) Also, Jer 51:57.
-
The military might of Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is in a prominent mountain.
See, I am against you, O destroying mountain, who destroys all the earth, declares Yehovah. And I shall stretch out My hand against you. And I shall roll you down from the rocks and make you a burnt mountain. (Jer 51:25)
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a bi-national United States and Canadian command center charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America. It is located in the Cheyenne Mountain and is designed to survive a 30 megaton nuclear explosion within 1.2 miles. The bunker is 5.1 acres tunneled within part of a spur of the Cheyenne Mountain massif at the Rocky Mountains’ eastern Front Range.
-
The chief ruler of Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is an anti-Semite.
Nevukadretsar the sovereign of Bavel has devoured us, he has crushed us, he has made us an empty vessel, he has swallowed us up like a monster. He has filled his stomach with my delicacies, he has driven us away. (Jer 51:34)
Already fulfilled. Consider the hidden messages in Jer 46:26-28 and Eze 38:2-3 concerning this ruler revealed in Chapter Two Scenarios for the War of Gog. This judgment comes on Babylon for its offences against Israel. Those who complain, in Jer 51:34, are the inhabitants of Israel and Jerusalem, in whose name the prophet enumerates the crimes of Babylon. The personal hatred of this ruler towards Israel is hard to hide anymore.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 is the praise of the world.
Oh, how Sheshak has been captured, the praise of all the earth been seized! How Bavel has become a ruin among the nations! (Jer 51:41)
The U.S.A. has been seen as a leading and dominant country since the end of WWII when from a regional power in the Western hemisphere it has become one of if not the only country that can have an influence of the world affairs. In reality, no U.N. Security Council’s decision can be passed without its “blessing.” No conflict on the face of the earth can be solved without either through a direct military engagement or through a humanitarian aid from America. This lead U.S. to be seen as “the praise” by the rest of the world. And yet the fearful destruction of Babylon will astonish the world.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 has an anti-missile defense shield in space.
Though Bavel should mount up to the heavens, and though she should make the height of her strength inaccessible, ravagers shall come to her from Me, declares Yehovah. (Jer 51:53)
The American ballistic missile defense (aka Star Wars) initiated by the Reagan Administration is designed to meet ballistic missile threats at all ranges from short to long, thanks to a layered defense. It has three main components: detection, interception, and a communications and battle management network. For target detection and tracking, there are networked sensors and ground- and sea-based radars in addition to the space-based sensors.
Ground- or sea-based interceptors launch missiles to destroy the target. The third piece, the network, provides commanders with links between the sensors and the interceptor missiles. Space-based detection and tracking is particularly important to U.S. because it allows a larger area to be defended. It also enables threats to be intercepted at a longer range well outside of the mainland. Babylon shall by no means escape punishment. Even though it mounted up to heaven (an allusion to Isa 14:12, and possibly also to the tower at Babylon), and made inaccessible the height of its strength, its lofty wall of defense, yet destroyers are to come against it according to the prophecy.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 has a multi-layer defense system.
Thus said Yehovah of hosts, “The broad walls of Bavel are completely demolished, and her high gates are burned with fire, and peoples labor in vain, and the nations weary themselves for fire.” (Jer 51:58)
This multi-layer defense system consist of early detection and interception of foreign ballistic missiles by U.S. installations based in ally countries, space based anti-missile defense, and the last layer of defense: NORAD. In the spring of 2006 negotiations between the United States and Poland as well as the Czech Republic were held for deployment of such systems. The U.S. plan had called for interceptors in Romania and Georgia, air-force bases in Bulgaria, and now even in Ukraine, complemented by deployed U.S. naval ships outfitted in the Mediterranean. The goal of this deployment of anti-missile defense systems is to encircle Russia from the west, north, and east; it is not meant to intercept the Iranian missiles for the simple reason that Iran does not have the real capabilities to threaten U.S. Therefore, we may conclude, this multi-layer defense system is against Russia.
-
Babylon in Jeremiah 50 and 51 has a large entertainment industry, Rev 18:22.
And the sound of harpists, and musicians, and flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you any more at all. And no craftsman of any trade shall be found in you any more at all. And the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you any more at all. (Rev 18:22)
The U.S. media and entertainment industry is comprised of businesses that produce and distribute motion pictures, television programs and commercials along with music and audio recordings, radio, games and publishing. It represents a third of the global industry, and is the largest market worldwide, which is expected to reach about $546 billion in 2014, per the 2013 Entertainment & Media Outlook by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The U.S. film industry posted $31 billion in revenues in 2013. The industry enjoys high popularity in foreign markets. U.S. export of film and entertainment media often attains shares in international markets in excess of 90 percent due to high global interest in U.S. filmed entertainment. The U.S. recorded music industry (including concerts and touring) reached $15.1 billion in 2013.
In conclusion, there is only one country in the world that can possibly fulfill all of these criteria of Babylon in the prophecy of Jeremiah and Isaiah and that is U.S.A. Other countries like Russia, China, E.U., and even Canada can fulfill only some of the above said attributes of Babylon, but only U.S.A. fulfills all of them.
America’s waning days as a superpower, comparing her current state with the demise of all past empires, appear to have been numbered. The prophecy goes on to say, that this Babylon will be destroyed swiftly and in surprise by the vengeance of Elohim of His Temple and the slain of Israel (see Jer 51:11, 24, 49). This country will be inhabited no more (see Jer 51:29, 37, 43, and 44), while the historical Babylon although it have been destroyed by the Persians and the Greeks, had never been depopulated and the land which was once occupied by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, and Greeks is even inhabited today. In contrast, the prophecy regarding the Babylon in Rev 17, there is no such a prediction.
‘O Yehovah, You have spoken concerning this place to cut it off, so that none shall dwell in it, neither man nor beast, for it is a ruin forever.’ And it shall be, when you have ended reading this book, that you shall tie a stone to it and throw it into the midst of the Euphrates, and shall say, ‘So does Bavel sink and not rise from the evil that I am bringing upon her, and they shall weary themselves.’ (Jer 51:62-64)
After the reading is finished, the book is to be bound to a stone and sink in order to fulfill, “Thus shall Babylon sink”. This was to be done in order to symbolize the fulfilment of the prophecy against Babylon that the book would sink down into the depths, thus indicating that Babylon would not rise again.
The reading of this prophecy and sinking it was not (then and as it is now) intended to warn the Babylonians of their own destruction but was meant (then and as it is now) to be a warning to the children of Elohim to leave Babylon. It is also a proclamation of the word of Elohim against Babylon.
See also Appendix B for a further understanding of Babylon in the end-time prophecy.
Note: Prophecy is not a prediction. Prophecy is not meant to predict the future, but to warn about the future. Jeremiah the Prophet is not a fortuneteller, but a watchman on the wall for the people of Elohim. He is warning about the coming danger. Even the darkest prophecy can be diverted, if there is repentance.
