How many wise men visited baby Yeshua?
Question: How many wise men visited baby Yeshua?
Answer: The Christian tradition says that three wise men visited baby Yeshua. But were they three? And how many were the wise men and what does the Bible say about their number?
The truth is that we do not know, because the account says nothing about their number. Their number has been assumed because of the number of gifts they brought in three gifts; therefore, they were three wise men. The wise men could have been three or perhaps even more, but we do not know that; the Apostolic Scripture is silent on this subject.
As a matter of fact, we can have the reason to believe that their number should have been larger than three and that they should have travelled with an armed escort. The reason being is that the three gifts the wise men brought before baby Yeshua (frankincense, myrrh and gold) were very expensive; gifts that would have required a caravan with an armed escort for protection on the long trip from Babylon to Judea: something we do not see in the popular Christian films.
